Ingredients

The Lip Balm recipe is a 3:1 ratio—perfect for keeping its shape within the tube.

  • 1/2 oz (14 g) beeswax

  • 1/2 oz (14 g) jojoba

  • 1/2 oz (14 g) coconut oil

Essential Oils

Use 5 drops per lip balm tube, in this recipe, use 60 drops total of essential oil. Choose from any of these citrus oil as none of them are phototoxic:

• Distilled Lime (Citrus aurantifolia)

• Sweet Orange (Citrus sinensis)

• Tangerine (Citrus reticulata)

• Blood Orange (Citrus sinensis)

• Mandarin (Citrus reticulata)

Bottles/Containers

You can use lip balm tubes or silver salve tins.

• 12–13 lip balm tubes (holding 5 ml each, which is 1/6 oz) OR

• 8–10 lip salve tins (holding 1/4 oz, or 7.5 ml each)

Other Supplies

• Lip balm tube tray (If you’re using lip balm tubes, it helps to have a tray to hold them all in place.)

• Pipettes

• Pyrex measuring cup

Directions

1. Set up your lip tubes in your lip balm tray. I suggest you put one tube in each corner of the tray so it stands up well. Place the remaining tubes all together, if you are not filling the tray.

2. Add your beeswax and  jojoba  to a Pyrex and melt. Once melted, add the cocoa butter and melt. Once melted, add the coconut oil and melt. Remove from heat, add your essential oil and stir.

3. Take the Pyrex off the heat, and begin filling the tubes using a pipette.

4. If the liquid begins to solidify you can place the Pyrex back in the hot water to keep it liquid while you dispense it into the tubes.

5. Once the balms are solid, gently taking them out and capping them.

Important guidelines for essential oils in lip balms

• Be sure to only use citrus oils that are not phototoxic! Distilled

A phototoxic essential oil in a lip balm could cause serious lip sun burn.

• Use only essential oils that are nourishing for the skin. Avoid anything spicy or skin irritating

A few essential oil recipes:

Total of 60 drops of essential oil for these recipes.

Coconut Chocolate

No essential oils as the coconut oil and cocoa butter are lovely together.
